A rethink for vulnerable people

In just a short but important walk, our vulnerable pedestrians Len and Olivia need to cope with four typical hazards found at, or near, many UK High Streets: crossing a cycle lane at a bus stop, known also as a floating bus stop; crossing a side-road at its junction with a main road; crossing the road at a roundabout; and coping with the dangers at a so-called pedestrian priority zone.

This website looks in depth at the discussion and progress as well as the opportunities to re-think improvements to each of these road safety concerns.

For example, there are a series of experimental simplified zebra crossings at side-road junctions near Millbank, Westminster, which have produced remarkably positive results.
